The 2023 Dodge Hornet is an exhilarating performance SUV that just made its way to the showroom here at Heritage Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM Owings Mills. It's ready to offer driving thrills along with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it actually isn't the first vehicle to use the Dodge Hornet name. To find its inspiration, let’s travel back to 2006.

The Dodge Hornet Concept

The Dodge Hornet concept was a smaller multipurpose vehicle, or MPV, that made its debut in 2006. It would have been the smallest car in the Dodge lineup. It would release in America, but it would also be designed to make a big splash in Europe with younger drivers who lived in urban environments.

The concept was powered by a 1.6-liter supercharged engine that could produce 170 horsepower and it had a top speed of approximately 135 miles per hour. So this model would offer the kind of performance fans of the Dodge brand have come to expect. A production version of the Dodge Hornet was almost ready to go for a 2010 release, but it wasn't meant to be.

What Happened to the Dodge Hornet?

The financial crisis of 2008 had a devastating effect on the auto market. Some brands disappeared completely and other automakers had to rethink their lineups. The Dodge Hornet was one of many casualties.

Fortunately for fans of this concept, the name has been revived as a 2023 model. The new Dodge Hornet differs from the concept in a few key ways, but we're excited to see what drivers think of it.
