Rugged and powerful. If those two qualities are at the top of your list when shopping for an SUV, you need to take a look at the Jeep® Grand Cherokee. This SUV performs beautifully both on and off paved roads.

Power and Drivetrain

The base 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee churns out 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque from its 3.6-liter V6 engine. There are also three other engine options:

  • 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.4-liter V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque

No matter the engine, you will get an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for four-wheel drive.

At its maximum, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee can even tow up to 7,200 lb!

Off-Road Ability

If you want a vehicle you’ll be able to take almost anywhere, the Jeep Grand Cherokee won’t disappoint. The Trailhawk trim is the top off-roader, as it comes with multiple skid plates, a limited-slip rear differential, all-terrain tires, and a two-speed transfer case. Not to mention, the Quadra-Lift air suspension system offers 10.8 inches of ground clearance, which will enable you to easily traverse rocks and other obstacles.

Gas Mileage

The base Jeep Grand Cherokee gets very good gas mileage: 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The mpg for the other configurations varies:

  • 3.6-liter V6, 4WD: 18/25 mpg city/highway
  • 5.7-liter V8, 4WD: 14/22 mpg
  • 6.4-liter V8, 4WD: 13/19 mpg
  • 6.2-liter supercharged V8, 4WD: 11/17 mpg
