Jeep® Engineers Considering Adding Small Crossover to Lineup

As it stands right now, the 2018 Jeep® Renegade is the smallest SUV currently available among the impressive lineup of Jeep automobiles, but according to AutoCar, that could change in the very near future. Reportedly, the higher-ups at the brand are giving consideration to adding a number of new SUVs to the lineup, one of which could be an even smaller crossover to serve as the entry-level automobile in the lineup.

“A smaller car than the Jeep Renegade is very interesting to us and we are actively looking at the project now," said Jeep CEO Mike Manley, who further noted that smaller crossovers are having increasing success in Europe, as well as the United States.

While it is entirely too early in the process to know what this vehicle will look like and how it will perform, we expect our customers in Owings Mills, MD to have a lot of questions about whether it will boast an edgier aesthetic like the Jeep Renegade, or perhaps a more traditional SUV look like the 2018 Jeep Cherokee.

Furthermore, it sounds like Jeep engineers and designers will put together that body in a way that allows it to sit atop an existing platform borrowed from another automobile in the FCA US LLC family.

Manley will announce the automaker's full five-year plan through 2023 this coming June, so we should get a much better sense of what this all means at that time. In the meantime, if there is any 2018 Jeep model that you have your eye on, we invite you to pay us a visit here at Heritage Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM to take a few test drives. Smaller SUVs are coming, apparently, but the ones we currently have in stock are pretty darn good, too!
